Matrix of Orator
This workshop is for those who want to discover the abilities of public speaking. They will practically discover the organic, harmonious interaction with the audience and feel the "taste" and energy of public speaking.
The workshop consists of artistic practice and self-directing. In addition, the course includes theoretical foundations and some psychological aspects of public speaking.
Artistic practice:
• Mastery of voice and body. Voice accents: intonations, pauses, speed, and volume of speech. Pose, facial expressions, gestures, and organic aspects of a public performance
• Mise-en-scenario—finding your place in space. External perspective on their public speaking skills
• Improvisation during a public performance. Confidence and engagement with the topic
• Psychological aspects of public speaking. Breathing support
Directing one's own public performance:
Any full-fledged performance should have two wings, two system components: semantic and aesthetic. The audience can be "taken" both by the discovery of new meanings and by the beauty of presentation in different proportions. But both the first and second components must always be present.
It is impossible to give a good performance without the ability to allocate attention to yourself and the public; inside and outside
By superimposing these two axes, we form the following map of attention, which identifies four primary types of speakers:
"Teacher" focuses all his efforts on creating new meanings, understandings, and connections in public. He makes sure that those present at his performance make small discoveries. The intellectual work of the audience is important to him. He is interested in the people who are growing up around him now. At the same time, he himself is in the shadows, but this does not bother him.
"Artist" - The focus of this type of speaker is on creating an aesthetic impression in the audience. At his performance, everything should be beautiful; external "gloss", form, and surroundings are important. Such an individual is a type of presentation leader, exhibition guide, tour guide, or toastmaster.
"Narcissus" - for him, the most important thing is the creation of an aesthetic impression on himself, thanks to his public performance: how "good", expressive, and beautiful he was.
He cares, first of all, about his assessment of the performance. This type of speaker is the most protected from the so-called "fear of the audience" because, during the performance, he does not consider the audience's evaluation to be important at all.
"Researcher" is a type of speaker who, thanks to public speaking, gains new understandings and discovers new meanings and connections. Meaning is important to him. He mostly cares about deepening his knowledge of the subject of the performance.
The theoretical foundations of public speaking include the following provisions:
• Live behaviour should be based on reality – in contrast to the "iron" plan of the performance. There must be room for improvisation and freedom of maneuver.
• The speaker must discover his interest in what he does in front of the audience—the tasks he solves. The main law of art is: "If it is interesting to the author, it is interesting to the viewer."
• It is necessary to move away from the evaluation paradigm. There is no "self-confidence". When I speak, I am not subject to judgement. I invite the listener to consider the matter or that subject with me.
• Directing a public performance is possible only if the performer has primary acting skills and skills in his operational arsenal (see artistic practice).
